(within last 6 months)
Phillips Canyon West Wash (03/27/2023)
Easy trail to exit the harder portions of the canyon. Not super scenic, but the end is fun to get some speed and test out your bump stops.
Phillips Canyon West (03/27/2023)
The trail can be hard to follow when in the red rock area. Once you get to the slot canyon (we ran this from waypoint 8 to 1) that is where the waterfalls begin. It is about as challenging as I would safely say a stock Tacoma could handle without sliders and rear quarter panel protection. I did barely drag the rear bumper, but luckily only scuffed the black plastic on the bumper. Capable stock, midsize SUVs (4-Runners and Grand Cherokees) can probably avoid the drama that a Tacoma or Gladiator at stock height deal with. I did not measure some of the drops, but due to our heavy rains, I am going to say that the waterfalls are larger than before our record rainy season here in Southern California.
Tin Can Alley (03/27/2023)
A trail that gets you behind the mountain and leads you to some more difficult trails.
Mule Canyon (03/27/2023)
An access trail that has a mix of hard pack, mud hills, and sand.
Geology Tour Road (02/19/2023)
The views of the larger topographical features of the park are great. The trail itself is a dirt road with the occasional small (any car could navigate them) washout from the recent rains. Take Berdoo Canyon to this to have a pretty grand entrance to the NP.
Berdoo Canyon (02/19/2023)
This is a great way to enter JTNP. It starts with some pretty rough-looking (trash, shell casings, pallets, tires, etc.) BLM land, but as soon as you pass the swing gate and enter the NP it is a beautiful drive. There are bypasses for everything but the last waterfall section, which anyone with clearance and good tires can probably get through without incident. Stock Subarus and Cute Utes would probably drag pretty well as they make their way up the waterfall/rocks.
Trio Of Mines (01/09/2023)
This trail is totally worth venturing off of Camp Rock Road. The downhill leading to Ford Mine is treacherous (4lo with a locker and good articulation) after quite a bit of rain. There is a spot to park if you don't want to take the trail down the hill and you can hike to Ford and Grand View Mine. Well worth the 10 minute walk. I'd say this trail is probably the 3 rating at this point.
1N34 San Sevaine Road (12/26/2022)
Really good views. The trail is 2wd with traction tire doable for sure. Icy once you get to waypoint 9. We turned around since there was a 100' stretch that was a sheet of ice.
