Trail Information

Highlights

Desert

Table Mesa Road West runs through a verdant portion of central Arizona's Sonoran Desert with cacti, including saguaro, prickly pear, and various cholla species. Numerous hills and mesas create a jagged scenic horizon. The trail's namesake mesa, with a lone tower astride its flat top, sits on the east side of I-17 near the trailhead.

Mild-mannered Table Mesa Road provides access to a broad area packed with trails ranging from mild to wild. Little Pan Mine Road crosses the seasonably variable Agua Fria River. The wickedly difficult Terminator trails result in a lot of bent metal. Scattered campsites make for great nights under the stars. And, of course, Table Mesa Road West is a Jeep Badge of Honor trail. So collect your badge and explore one of Arizona's premier offroad areas.

Trail Difficulty and Assessment

Trail Navigation

Table Mesa Road, TMRA 9997, is well-graded, providing access to a popular OHV area. The 4.5-mile trail descends approximately 450 feet with no significant obstacles along the way. Any vehicle can easily drive this road.

Table Mesa Road begins and ends on Arizona State Trust land. The central part of the trail, between Waypoints 7 and 14, is on BLM land. Arizona does not require a permit to drive the road. However, camping on Arizona State Trust land does require a permit.

Meh. Incredible easy trail. Just a dirt road as described. Lots of shooting spots. Lots of campsites. All of which very trashed. Just FYI, you can't enter Lake Pleasant at this time due to the eagle closure.

While the area is interesting, with a wide variety of trails, the unfortunate spectacle of trash and broken glass in the shooting areas detracts heavily from the experience.

Easy little trail through the desert, great for very first beginners. It has some nice views. Any vehicle should be able to complete this. There is a ton of trash along the trail which is kind of sad. It is an easy Jeep badge of honor, so that is cool! It also has good access to other trails that might be a little more exciting.

Very simple but enjoyable route through the Arizona Desert, Valleys and mountains. This route is simple but the side trips are great fun. I’d also recommend you explore Table Mesa Road on the east side of the freeway (I-17). Better challenge and scenic.

I was in the area of North Phoenix and heard how easy this trail was so I decided to go real quick. Very nice quick drive on a dirt road that honestly can be done in a car. But it is on the Jeep Badge of Honor trails so I took my Jeep to get my first trail completed. There is nothing to worry about on this trail but please be aware of the people shooting out here and the Park Rangers do patrol so it is fairly busy. If you have 30 minutes to take an easy stroll through the desert then put this on your list
