Font's Point

The Font's Point trailhead is clearly marked off highway S-22. The trailhead has plenty of space to air down. Airing your tires down helps avoid sinking in the soft sands that are along the route.

This extensive, flat, sandy area on the side of the wash offers a little protection from the winds as it is against the 30-foot hillside. Plenty of room here for you and your whole neighborhood.

Short Wash cuts off to the southeast, providing a unique way to exit the area. Continue straight to Fonts Point.

The east/driver's side path is the in route, while the west/passenger side path is the outbound track..

Please Note: Camping is prohibited beyond this point.

You made it as far as you can go in a vehicle. From here, you park and hike. It is a short walk of only a few minutes to get to the overlook.

Please follow the one-way signs to exit.

The parking lot opens 1 hour before sunrise and closes 1 hour after sunset.

After a short hike, you are at Fonts Point. Said to be in the Top 10 things to do in California, the sunset at Fonts Point is exceptional. Below is the Borrego Badlands, once a seabed. Fossilized seashells prove it was once submerged under a blend of salty tropical waters from the Gulf of California and fresh water from the Colorado River. Scientists theorize that it was once home to fish, sea turtles, and sharks.
