My Trail Reviews (8)

(within last 6 months)
Schubarth Trail (04/01/2023)
A good side trail to explore off of Rampart Range Road. There is very little snow left on the trail. As with snow melt, expect mud and puddles, but nothing to worry about. The trail is fairly wide at the beginning and narrow down a bit towards the end. A full size vehicle will fit, but can be tight in a couple of spots. A couple of camp sites along the trail, but nothing special in terms of views.
Manchester (Manchester Creek) (01/07/2023)
This is a nice relaxing trail with no technical challenges. Having said this, in the snow, some parts of the trails can get you a little sideways but nothing careful driving can’t fix. This is a scenic drive, even in the burned area, with camping along the way.
Matukat Road (aka Goose Creek Road) (12/10/2022)
This is a nice day trip with beautiful scenery. While I would prefer to see living trees instead of the burned remains from the fire, it does make the surrounding landscape feel other-worldly. There are beautiful vistas of mountain peaks and valleys, huge rock formations and yes, there still trees in the area. The trail is not technical at all and any passenger car can complete this track.
Pawnee Grasslands-Wild Horse Creek (11/19/2022)
A good trail for experiencing “something different” from the usual mountain trail run. There are plenty of tumbleweeds gathered at waypoint 5. Due to losing daylight I didn’t make the attempt to clear this. If you plan on heading to this trail, be aware that the gate at WP5 is blocked. Not too much to see out this way. To make the trip worth while, I added Pawnee Buttes Trail to this trip, otherwise it is just flat and featureless. But perhaps that’s the point.
Vedauwoo Road (11/12/2022)
Fun and scenic dirt road that can be driven by practically any vehicle. There are dispersed camping along the main road, but take the offshoot trails as better campsites are often found there.
Crow Creek Road (11/12/2022)
Good fun trail that is not too technical. There are some rocky bits that lower clearance vehicles may find challenging. There are also several ruts that add a bit of fun to the drive, most can be bypassed if needed. A good amount of dispersed campsites can be found along this trail as well as connector trails
Mount Herman Road (10/29/2022)
I connected this trail with Rampart Range for a fun family drive with amazing views. There were some dispersed camping on Mount Herman Road, but nowhere near the amount you’ll find on Rampart Range. There was snow on the ground during my visit, which added a little more fun factor to the journey.
Crooked Creek (10/22/2022)
A fun trail worth driving. There are several campsites with very little traffic during my visit. In fact I encountered only one other vehicle the entire day. The trail is Rocky past the long creek crossing and will toss your vehicle side to side a decent amount. Be aware that if you drive this trail in a full size truck like mine, pinstriping is unavoidable.
