Trail Information

Highlights

Long Hollow Road is a winding switchback graded dirt road that connects HWY 67 and Rampart Range Road. Many sections are very scenic, and there’s a lake with a picnic ground towards the upper part. It also serves as a connector for many other fun trails that intersect along the way. It is an easy trail with only a few minor bumpy sections. There are only a few sections that are very brief that are narrow enough for only one vehicle to pass. Intersections can cause some confusion, but the road is very well marked, and you just need to look for the next 348 sign. The route is suitable for all vehicles in fair weather, but bring 4WD for rain or snow. There can be frequent and fast moving traffic on this road so be on the lookout at all times going around corners. There are large campgrounds along the way suitable for large groups. A gate closes this trail off seasonally depending on conditions, but it is usually open up to the first gate that allows access from the west side to more of the other trails that are open year round.

Ran part of this trail in conjunction with a bunch of other trails in the area. Drove the section from the parking lot to Fern Creek. This was not a difficult trail, but did encounter some snow on the trail in the shady area.

Calvary 4-Wheeler ran part of Long Hollow Road on Saturday, May 28 as part of a tour of the Rainbow Falls area. We used Long Hollow as our exit back to Rainbow Falls Road and so only ran the portion from Fern Creek (Waypoint 3) to the end. The trail was open , clear and dry. What this trail lacks in challenge it makes up for with beauty. It was a very pleasant end to a nice day.
