Alamo Road (03/30/2023)
Great time out in the desert! It was very wash-boarded up until the halfway point, highly recommend airing down for comfort. Weather was great and recent rains only had a little bit of an effect on the conditions, you could feel the trail get a little squelchy at points but never to any points where grip was lost. This is doable with a 2WD, however I'd say that if you don't have good clearance, go slow and be careful of rocks sticking up too high. I have 9.2 inches of clearance and the skid plate took 2-3 decent little hits (could have been avoided if I was paying.
White Rock Road (03/30/2023)
Great time out in the desert! It seemed like there had been a wash go through the trail, possibly with recent rains that brought some rocks onto the road, however it is pretty simple to navigate. We saw a downed cactus as well around halfway through, but the trail was wide enough for the Forester to go around it. This is doable with a 2WD, however I'd say that if you don't have good clearance, go slow and be careful of rocks sticking up too high. I have 9.2 inches of clearance and the skid plate took 2-3 decent little hits (could have been avoided if I was paying a bit more attention). We camped at the site at the end of the trail and the views were beautiful! It did get down to below freezing at night and we did get hit with some hail but overall it was an awesome time!
Pawnee Grasslands Willow Creek Loop (03/20/2023)
Agree with Dominik, we went together and it was quite fun! Was very different compared to all the trails I'm used to in the mountains, would recommend if you want to try something different.
Switzerland Trail (03/05/2023)
This trail was a great time. There was snow on about 50% of the trail, there was only one spot that we found tricky on the downhill after waypoint 2, there was a very large accumulation of hard packed snow which made it difficult for quite a few vehicles. Main issue was mostly getting high centered on 9+ inches of hard packed snow. We had a Jeep get high centered on that obstacle as well as my Subaru, we even had to help a modified jeep get rolling again and they even had chains up front. Carrying some more momentum and picking a better line would have probably been good, however we all eventually managed to get through with the help of some other folks on the trail that gave us a pull. After that, the trail was smooth sailing, with beautiful views. Will definitely be going back
Corona Pass aka Rollins Pass West (10/30/2022)
Ran this trail expecting some snow, it was mostly covered for about 70% of the trail however as Matt pointed out it is not very deep snow and doesn't pose any real issues. I made it with no problems up until the Train Trestle (waypoint 12), after which the snow got noticeably more slippery. I was on my own in my Forester Wilderness and I didn't feel super confident continuing onwards as it was my first time driving in the snow. After a 5 or so point turn, I headed back with no issues. Overall a great trail with some awesome views!
Mammoth Gulch (10/21/2022)
Really nice trail, a lot rockier than the guide pictures show, but nothing a vehicle with good clearance shouldn't be able to handle. Ran the trail to connect with Elk Park, awesome views!
Moffat Tunnel Road (10/21/2022)
Drove on the trail to get onto Mammoth Gulch trail, very smooth dirt road, had some nice views of the sunrise on the mountains to the west. Any vehicle can drive it
Elk Park Road (10/21/2022)
A good connector trail between Mammoth and Apex, rockier than I expected but is still nothing difficult, recommend airing down.
Apex Valley Road (10/21/2022)
Joined the trail coming from Elk Park Road, made a left towards the end of the trail and went up and down Dakota Hill, great views and a few nice campsites. It gets much rockier after waypoint 9, however waypoints 1-8 is a smooth, 2-wide dirt road. Aired back up somewhere around waypoint 2 before rejoining the main road. I'll rate the trail spot-on since I do believe after waypoint 9 is a 2-2 difficulty, however the first part is definitely a 1-1.
Button Rock (10/13/2022)
Awesome trail with some great views and challenging obstacles (for an AWD) my friend did the trail in a Bronco and had no issues. The trail can be quite narrow in some parts, especially towards the start and in some of the later sections, including the optional spur, so pinstriping could be an issue in a wider vehicle. This was a much harder trail than other 2-2 rated trails I have done, so based on that I think it should be rated a 3-3, however I managed to complete the trail in a stock Subaru Forester Wilderness, with only a few issues (some of which could have been avoided with a better line). Overall though, this trail was great, plenty of spots for dispersed camping and it wasn't busy at all on a Thursday morning.
Meadow Creek Road (10/09/2022)
Easy dirt road for the most part, however as the description says, after waypoint 8 it does get a lot more rocky and rutted, high clearance would help alot. Saw a decent amount of dispersed camping spots and will likely return in the future to stay a night. It was not busy at all, probably because the temperature were just below freezing. Overall a nice way to start the day with an out and back trail!
Aqueduct Road (10/09/2022)
I linked this trail with Meadow Creek Road and it was a nice way to end the day. I ran it in reverse of the trail guide and I thought it was a pretty scenic alternative to simply getting on the highway on the way back south. Had a deer run out in front of me at one point and also got stuck behind a log truck for a little while as well. There are tons of dispersed camping spots available and I did have cell reception around 60% of the trail. The fall colors were on full display! Got to see some nice views overlooking the Fraser area. Overall a nice trail, would recommend linking it with others to make the trip worth it. I wouldn't advise making the trip here just for this trail, unless you are camping!
