My Trail Reviews (143)
(within last 6 months) wanted to be up there this year but not looking good after our trip was cancelled. Putting in an update of the trail to clean it up.
Giving the tail write up a little clean up. Meant to be out there this time of year but things changed :(
If you first don't succeed, try, try, and try like 50 more times to make this trail. I wanted to get out to this trail to see the changes. 5 different anza trips happened over the last year, and each was supposed to have this trail on it. Finally, I was able to see the trail in its current condition.
I was able to get new photos and will be updating the trail. The trail is now super easy, like 2wd land. Sad :( . But with that said, they didn't bulldoze the obstacle; they just put dirt over them, so maybe one day this could be a fun trail yet again.
Update coming .
I do love the views of this area. Just wish I could have it to myself.
Big edit in progress, adding a ton of camping spots.
This is the easiest the road has ever been, no landslides block the trail, the sand stone v was flat. Almost drive my RV up it. But the trail on the other hand, still awesome, easily one of my favorites in the part.
a big edit is on its way,
I love these canyons, I found out some Indian history I never knew about. Missed it as I found out after. All this will be in the new trail guide coming.
A quick run up. I feel like i should have better photos for the double waterfall. Will have to look
My old go-to, found some people that were on the trail that weren't ready. Helped them out and continues on my way.
One of the easy trail in and out of the area. Not much has changed.
I love these canyons, so full of life.
Drove through it on my way to Phillips. Also camping just outside of the canyon
So much history in this area, also saw some Big Horn Sheep right next to the trail. That was cool.
New trail edit inbound.
A staple for any overland route. While out there ran into someone with the train track go kart thing. Bummed I ran into at the end of the day. I would love to ride the tracks back to the goat bridge.
FYI - major edit is happening to this trail. Let me know what you think after it is in.
A neat spot along the main route. Didn't know there is a cool camping spot for a small group in the mine. Redit of the trail is on its way.
I was out remapping the area, such a cool place. One of these days I will hike up to the spring and little waterfall.
Every time I do this trail, I forget how much I like it. Always a ton of fun. Also went out and added all the new info to the trail guide. Make sure you leave reviews and let us know what you like.
Ran the trail while out having a blast out in the area. The trail overall I would say was easier even though the dropoff was torn up.
Went out to the area to help out and update some the trails. Always a must do if you are in the area at sunset.
Went out and gave this trail some much-needed love. So much history and most people don't even realize it. Just watch out for mountain lions, had one get uncomfortable close to me at night.
Great freeway, just wish the Hollywood sign was still there. See my trip reports below.
Did I mention the purple flowers...
Camped on the trail, even through it wasn't the plan, I think it worked out 10 times better. The views were stunning and had okay cell service.
Good Short Cut and bypass to the tight canyon
Just another day in anza, and another trip down the loop.
Must do when in the area. Nothing has changed
Another quick connector over the trails. Not much has changed.
Not sure why this trail isn't more popular. The mud palisades are awesome!!!
Love this place. But it started raining and this place is slick as snot.
Use it all the time, nothing has changed
A path to the mine, easy....
Same old trail. Still a ton of fun
I don't know why i love this place so much. A must stop.
New trail guide coming,,, be ready!!!
Love these trails, took some new photos, they might be showing up soon?
Fun like always was suprised to find no one camping on this trail. I thought about it myself.
Fun trail, use it all the time to cut through to other trails
Went out and found the salt spring moved... That is weird, makes me wonder how much pressure is on the fault line.. Maybe the big one is coming.
Mud caves are awesome!!!
Still one of the best trails out there. Easy though right now. The trail was recently graded, if it wasn't for the drop in, a school bus could almost do this trail.
Edit of this trail is on its way.
Went out and got some new photos of the trail. Not much has changed in the last year which is not normal... Still a great trail, and stunning views.
Miss the old section... Wish the park would do what they said and reopen it after it was proven the trail went further.
Fish Creek in Anza Borrego is a hidden gem that is often overlooked by visitors to the park. This scenic canyon is located in the heart of the park and offers a unique outdoor experience that is perfect for hikers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts alike.
One of the coolest things about Fish Creek is the stunning geological formations that are on display. Visitors can explore towering sandstone cliffs, rocky outcroppings, and winding canyons that are millions of years old. These formations provide a fascinating glimpse into the history of the park and offer a chance to see the raw power of natural forces at work.
In addition to its geological wonders, Fish Creek is home to a variety of flora and fauna. Hikers can spot desert wildflowers, cacti, and palm trees as they traverse the rocky terrain. The canyon is also home to a variety of animals, including bighorn sheep, coyotes, and various bird species.
For those who are looking for an adventure, Fish Creek offers plenty of opportunities for exploration. Visitors can hike through the canyon, scramble over boulders, and explore dry washes. The area is also popular among off-road enthusiasts, who enjoy exploring the rugged terrain in their 4x4 vehicles.
Finally, one of the best things about Fish Creek is that it is a relatively quiet and secluded area of the park. Unlike some of the more popular hiking trails and tourist spots, Fish Creek offers a peaceful and tranquil experience that is perfect for those who want to get away from the crowds and immerse themselves in nature.
In conclusion, Fish Creek is a unique and beautiful area of Anza Borrego that is well worth a visit. Whether you're a nature lover, hiker, or off-road enthusiast, this hidden gem is sure to leave a lasting impression on you.

I just ran the trail to do a re-edit. The trail is much worse than normal, and I would expect at some point the park might come to work the trail. But overall, the rating will remain at a 4.
There is a washout just past the powerlines. So you have to enter from the north and exit from the north.
I believe you can use 3N22 to make a loop but not confirmed.
Trail is clear right now, probably could change the rating to a 1.
So the plaque run has changed and will likely result in a lower of the rating on this trail.
There is now a right line that is much easier then before.
The plaque line was the hardest part of the this trail meaning the rating will likely drop. I will see about getting out there to take a look, but right now I would say it is dropping down to an 8 or maybe 7
Some water placement issues
Trail is open during the winter, closed in the summer.
Just ran the trail as part of a 2-day overland trip. The trail was pretty smooth and was able to get through it pretty easily.

I might change the rating as it seems like this was graded a bit. But it is still steep and could require 4wd

The upper canyon is closed for the winter, but most of the best views are just a short hike past the gate. Still worth the stop and some great camping near the end of this trail.
Still a nice drive through the desert
Ran out there for new years. The road is a still easy and drove my RV down it. I have never seen that place so busy.
Dropped down when out in the area. Stopped at the big cross
Always fun running through the dunes.
Ran out to sand dam at night and enjoyed the show.
Had a few buddies do the trail right before I got there, I was bummed I didn't get to join. But stopped by anyway and still a wild trail.
Did a quick night run down this path. Still a ton of fun and enjoying the rocks.

This place was wild for new years!!!
Stopped by on my Christmas to New Years trail trip. Unfortunately the weather didn't work with us at all this trip and this was the only trail we got to do while in Arizona. But, its a great trail if you have to pick one...
Sounds like they are making progress on getting this reopened. But still closed.
Rain is making it hard to get up there. FYI - they close the gates for rain storms. Usually not common, but this year they seem to be.
The trails gate is closed at the bottom, and the only way to get through the gate is to be a key holder. But there is no gate at the top and you can drive down the trail. Doesn't do you much good as you can't get through the gate at the bottom.
The way they limit traffic on this trail isn't what is right.
Rumors of a new landslide on the trail. You may need to loop around
Arroyo Tapiado in the mean time to get to Diablos Drop.
Should have closed for the season
Should have closed for the season
Should have closed for the season
I checked on the trail, the rating isn't changing as the trail hasnt' changed much. Note, going south is the easy direction as the sand makes going north much harder.
Going down the sand hill at the last waypoint is still the easiest way, just steep and scary.

The trail is partially open meaning you can enter or possibly exit from the west side.
Trail will be closed now they have snow

Trail is a little harder than normal.
You got to watch out for the sun right before sunset. Right in the eyes.
Rumors of a fence being put up. Heard this from several people but not verified in person.
Have you ever come around the corner and seen a helicopter on the road?
Ran the trail after allh the storms hit the hills. The trail is in pretty good condition and sort of hard. Should be a great trip for almost anyone.
