Yankee Hill Road (12/11/2022)
Ran it from east to west. Some snow pack. Not enough to trouble even this newbie (granted JLU with 3in lift 35s) - did end up spinning the wheels a couple of times - but that was user error in not placing tires on pressed down tracks. One ~30 foot section of ice (near waypoint 18?) - presumably frozen snow melt. A fellow off-roader in a truck was kind enough to guide me through it. The rocky section (soon after the ice) warrants the 4-5 rating - needed some careful tire placement and spotting. Managed to not scrape anything under. Not gonna lie - it did make me think of turning back, but it was not sustained - just one 30-40 ft section that was the crux. Glad I plowed through. Views at waypoint 6 were beautiful!
Soldier Mountain- Rampart Range FS Road 300U (12/04/2022)
Two somewhat steep hills between waypoints 2 and 4. The steepest points read 17-19 degrees pitch on my JLU for what it’s worth. Was a lot of fun for a beginner like me. My 3 inch lift + 35 inch tires felt secure all the way. Did put in 4L for the steep sections.
Dakan Road (11/27/2022)
First time out off roading! Nice easy and pleasant trail exactly as advertised. Not much traffic - maybe 10 vehicles for entire back and forth trip. Great for beginner like me. Some nice views. A bit of snow on the ground, touch icy in some places. 4 stars only because I’d like to save 5 stars for amazing trails (else I **** we will end up with 4.9 rating for everything!).
