Broken Arrow (01/01/2023)
Super fun trail with breathtaking vies. Every time we’re in Sedona we always do this trail, it’s gonna be a crime to be there and not hit this trail, again. It’s that good ! Last week ( end of December 22 ) was just after the rain and the trail was very slippery but still, with good tires at 18psi there was no issues. It gets very busy during weekends and holidays but still more than worth it. Going down the Devil Staircase section is optional but not to be missed ! It looks worse than it is. Just shift to the lowest gear and stay on the brakes, you’ll be sliding from one step to the next at a very low speed and it’s super fun and very rewording. If you get lost just follow one of the pink Jeeps and you’ll be fine. Allow few hours for this trail and bring your lunch with you to have on the trail, like I said, this place is breathtaking and you’ll never want to leave. Don’t miss the off shoot short trail to the Submarine rock, it’s a must see. Bring your camera gear with plenty of memory card storage, you’ll need it.
Dry Creek Road (01/01/2023)
This is more of an access dirt road to the hiking trail head than a Jeep trail, but if you’re in Sedona you don’t want to miss it. The trail ends at the lot that ( usually ) has enough parking space for 10 to 15 rigs. Once there you leave your rig and start walking. I’m an off reader, not a hiker but this hike is well worth the effort. It took us a while to hike to the famous “ Devil Bridge “ ( or Devil’s Arch ) and it’s totally worth the effort of the long hike. When you first look at the stone bridge and how high it hangs it’s a bit scary and somewhat intimidating but once you’re actually on it you realize it’s very wide and feels very easy and defiantly safe. Have someone stay on the side trail while you go on the bridge so they can take your picture on it, it’ll be the coolest picture of your life, period. Expect a line of people waiting to have their picture taken during weekends and holidays but the line moves rather quickly and beside, you wouldn’t mind the down time to rest from your hike while soaking in the amazing surrounding scenery.
SC65 - McIvers Cabin (01/01/2023)
Pretty cool trail that takes you from the high desert of the Mojave all the way up to the Sequoia forest. Beside some deep ruts and other random obstacles ( this trail keeps changing due to weather and usage ) it’s pretty easy but a very fun trail to drive since it winds and curves between the trees so there’s a lot of “steering wheel work “ and gear shifting ( for manual transition rigs ). It climbs very high in elevation so you get much colder weather once you make it up to the forest. We’ve done it countless times and it keeps on changing. Either way it’s a fun trail that will take about half a day ( in and out ) If you run this trail in the summer, it’s a great escape from the desert heat. If you run it in the winter, there most likely to be snow on the trail ( even mid fall ) which makes it even more fun. Be mindful about the first section ( at the lower desert section ) it’s a very popular off road area and the access trail has many other trails crossing it so don’t even think you’re there all by yourself. People run at very high speeds on those flat and long trails and not everyone has the brains to slow down ( or stop ) at trails intersections, sometimes when you see the other guy it’s already too late. Nothing to be worried about, just keep it in mind.
Schnebly Hill Road (12/29/2022)
It was temporary closed at the date of my review due to snow and ice, but we’ve done it few month ago and also last year. Super easy trail ( not sure why it’s a budge of honor trail … ) but well worth your time. It cuts through the beauty of the Sedona Red mountain scenery and the views are plain incredible ! About the half way point ( or maybe closer to the Sedona end ) there’s a small lot where you can leave your rig and take a 12 minutes walk / hike to one of the more spectacular places you’ll ever lay your eyes on. If you want to see God’s creation - this is the place to see. The trail gets busy during weekends and holidays but it’s more than wide enough for on coming rigs to pass through. Like I said, this trail is very easy but it’s very very bumpy, so dial your suspensions to the softest settings, lower your tire pressure and enjoy one of the prettiest trails ever.
Chicken Corners (12/28/2022)
Such a fun trail ! Takes a while to get to the very end ( the actual Chicken Corner ) but well worth it, you’ll be overwhelmed by the endless amazing views along the way. The trail is actually very easy and can be easily done at 2WD for most of the way with the exception of only few easy rugged sections here and there. I wouldn’t recommend doing it if there’s snow on the trail because at many sections that trail goes very close to a drop off cliff at more than few sections. Once you get to the actual Chicken Corner, get out of your rig and just walk it. You’ll see that there’s plenty of space to make that ( scary ) section super safely, it’s just intimidating to look at, but in reality it’s super easy and actually safe. Once you clear that section keep going through the open area and go over the last rock, passed that you’ll get to the very end of the trail where you’ll take the best lunch break of your life ! The view out of this place is beyond unbelievable !
2N47 - Cleghorn Ridge (12/11/2022)
Super fun trail, nice views and takes only few hours to complete. The first half of the trail ( going toward the lake ) can be as hard or as easy as you like since you can choose to stay on the fire road or take the hard lines. 2nd half of the trail ( descending down to the lake ) gets more and more interesting and will put you in some sever off camber situations ( as you can see in my picture ). The clay wall is right next to you so you can’t really roll over but it could be intimidating. Smart tire placement and / or a good spotter will make this trail safe while keeping up the fun factor and the adrenalin gushing … Somewhat busy on weekends and due to its technical nature I wouldn’t recommend it if there’s snow on the ground. Flexy suspensions and good articulation will make your life easier on this trail. Take it easy on the throttle and choose your lines wisely if you don’t want to joint the long list of people who flipped their rigs on the Cleghorn trail ! See the video I’m attaching to this review.
