Bumpy, rocky, exhilarating, and simple describe the experience on this Jericho Mountain Green Trail. Developed by off-roaders in conjunction with State Parks officials, this trail is made to challenge both vehicle and driver. Although the Green Trail East is the easiest of the trails in the park, it is not just a simple walk in the park. Strap in, hang on, and pay attention to your driving from start to finish.

Trail Difficulty and Assessment

Trail Navigation

Jericho Mountain State Park lists four color-coded trails by their difficulty levels. This is a green trail, according to the Park's signs. The Trails Offroad difficulty rating will show this as an "orange" trail on our map since it is rated a 3 by our standards. The Park has the following rating system: Green: Easiest. A lightly modified vehicle with at least 33" tires and a winch is recommended. Blue: More Difficult: A modified vehicle with at least 35" tires, a locker, and a winch is recommended. Black: Most Difficult. A heavily modified vehicle with at least 38" tires, a locker, and a winch is mandatory. Red: Extreme. Custom-built vehicles with at least 40" tires, (2) lockers, (2) winches and a roll cage are mandatory. While the Park shows only one green trail, we have separated the green trails into two sections, east and west. This trail guide covers the entrance and eastern end of the greens. The Green Trail East (this trail) is the easiest of the trails in the Park. The easiest trail still has minor rock obstacles scattered from start to finish. The Jericho Mountain Green Trail East is a dirt and granite rock trail within the forest of the Jericho Mountain State Park. The trail is a lollipop-shaped out-and-back trail in the designated 4x4 Off Road Trail area. Although Jericho Mountain State Park is an ATV-friendly park, ATVs and side-by-sides are not allowed on the Green Trail East. This technical trail will require understanding vehicle lines and tire placement. This trail is suitable for high clearance 4WD vehicles with a low range transfer case and drivers with some experience with negotiating large rocks.

This was a fun loop to take, much more relaxed than the other green section. I would recommend this to anyone looking to dip their toes into very minor rock crawling. If you like this one, and want more, take on the Green Trail West!

This trail was the easiest one inside the Jericho Mountain State Park Jeep Trail. Although I think that a stock vehicle can complete this trail, There are still areas when a stock vehicle will scrape rock-rails, shock mounts and diffs. The park requires a 33" minimum tire size for the green trails. I concur that what it will take to avoid damage to vehicles. The other trails require different, more capable modifications. If you have the green trail minimum vehicle requirements, you can enjoy a challenging experience that can be exhilarating.
