Even when you are having fun, the time comes when everyone is ready for a break to stretch their legs and enjoy the delicious food you brought with you. Green #5 is the chill-out trail in Redbird State Recreation Area. Twisting its short distances through a beautiful forest, you can take a quick break at what is known as "Sherwood Forest," which is complete with picnic tables, benches, and even benches swinging from the trees. While you might not find Robin Hood here, the trail will provide a gentle drive and the perfect lunch spot while wheeling all day.

Trail Difficulty and Assessment

Trail Navigation

Route Finding and Path Redbird #5 Green is a combination of trails 24 and 25 and is the easiest portion of what the Jeep Badge of Honor depicts as Trail #5. Not only is it the easiest to drive, but it is also the easiest to route find. It originates from 0 Green North, which is more difficult than this trail. Technical The route is almost entirely dirt and potentially slick mud when wet. It is wide enough through most of the trail to let another vehicle pass. When dry, this is a simple and easy-to-drive trail. With dirt, once water hits, it turns to mud, and this trail will be slick and could prove much more challenging simply due to traction issues. Traction is the difference maker, as there are no notable obstacles. Vehicle and Equipment Recommendations It is suitable for any high-clearance vehicle with four-wheel drive and great for beginners and seasoned alike. All-terrain tires are recommended at a minimum. Map Colors The Park lists green trails as the easiest, which correlates with the Trails Offroad difficulty system for a "2" rated trail. The Park describes its map colors as follows: Green = Beginner Level, Easiest Blue = Intermediate Level, More Difficult Black = Advanced Level, Most Difficult Red = Expert Level, Extremely DIfficult Open Hours, Permits, Ammentities You can wheel from dawn to dusk, but the Park's fee station is open from 9 am - 7 pm April through September and 9 am to 5 pm October through March. When you arrive, a park office offers a drive-up window to pay for your pass. The pass must be displayed. The Park has several large picnic/pavilion areas for grilling food and gathering and vault toilets towards the north end of the main paved road. There are plenty of parking lots to air down and air up,

So short, but yet very scenic. The picnic area was really nice as I had the place to myself. Deer kept coming up to me as I sat there, and the birds sang away. The road is very simple, and I drove it all in 2wd. If it was really muddy, you would want 4wd perhaps to make it up the gentle hill.
