ORV Park
Looking to bag all of the Jeep Badge of Honor trails but don't have quite the rig for the gnarly trails or, as Gulches would say the "absolutely stupid" trails? If so, look no further than Trail 1. This "green" trail is part of the easiest loop in the park, giving you a tour of what the park has to offer. Trail 1 meanders down through the lush forest towards the back of the park and the Reedy River. Along the way, you will find a few easier obstacles to test your rig with the opportunity to go absolutely wild. The vibrant red mud on this trail contrasts nicely with the surrounding vegetation, which changes from bright green to deep orange and red colors during the Autumn months. Combine this with River Road and Trail 14 for a nice, easy loop within the park.

Trail Difficulty and Assessment

Trail Navigation

This hard-packed red clay trail is notorious for becoming sticky mud during wet conditions. Starting at The Gulches entrance, Trail 1 is a straight-through that ends at the start of River Road. Trail 1 has one main obstacle at Waypoint 3, with a heavily rutted area from excessive water runoff with multiple lines. This trail specifically is suitable for moderately experienced drivers with a high clearance 4x4, but drivers should pay close attention to posted signage as extremely difficult routes are frequent and just around the corner. The Gulches has more than 50 trails ranging from easy to "absolutely stupid," - according to their park information. The park has a massive staging area where you can park a trailer, work on your rig, and use the restrooms. Restrooms are clearly marked on the trail maps. The Park has the following rating system: Green: Easy Intermediate: Blue Difficult: Single Black More Difficult: Yellow or Double Black (Depending on the map) Most Difficult: Orange or Skull & Crossbones (Depending on the map) Also notable map features: Red Dots (numbered): Primitive Campsites Blue Dots: Deep Water Other Notes (mentioned at check-in) Keep your vehicle in 4-low throughout the park Airing down tires is always recommended Air back up behind the house before you leave Disconnect sway bars NO DRINKING AND DRIVING Stay on marked trails The park closes due after heavy rain events due to the mud. Please call ahead of time to check the status of the park. If you get stuck, call or text 864-714-9099.
The mud holes in the Gulches ORV Park will potentially require extraction from management. Upon entry, they will show you an entire photo gallery of the customers who have not heeded their warning. Enter/exit mud holes at your own risk.

Honestly, I wouldn't take my review seriously as I am not the clientele this ORV park is catered to. If you have a built rig and you seriously enjoy offroading, I can see this park being a 5-star network of trails. But if you are an overlander who just uses their rig to get away from the Subarus to find an epic remote campsite, this won't be your cup of tea. Regardless of my whining, I still had a fun time watching our Jeeps flex through the obstacles in this park.
