My Trail Reviews (48)
(within last 6 months) Always a fun day. Ran the trail as part of a vendor run for EJS. A lot of rigs take a long time to get through this trail, but it was still fun. Trail hasn't changed much besides the fact that the canyon is getting deeper as it erodes more. The balancing rock looks mighty skinny at its base. Not sure how many more years that will be standing.
Trail is open for the season
The road is not hard for a high clearance vehicle, but it's in extremely rough shape coming up the hill from the highway. Winter must have been hard on the road because it's rougher than I've ever seen it. Super slow going through there and forget about it if you have anything low clearance. After you drop down into the valley, it the same as its always been.
Seasonal closure is now in effect.
Ran it before the latest snow storm and it had only been fully open for a few days according to the the folks in Crown King. It's wet and snowy after waypoint 26 in some spots, so just be cautious. Great trail though! Love all of the optional stuff in the first half. Definitely not a beginner trail though if you are attempting to travel the entire way. We found a stock toyota pickup high centered on the rock at waypoint 27, and he spent all night there waiting for help. They tried stacking a ton of rocks that never worked out for them. They were on street tires and came from the top down thinking they could make it. After getting them unstuck, they turned around and headed back up.
Trail is a bit on the rough side, but a high clearance 2wd vehicle will have no issues at all. The road that darts off at waypoint 2 has some killer campsites!!
Meh. Incredible easy trail. Just a dirt road as described. Lots of shooting spots. Lots of campsites. All of which very trashed. Just FYI, you can't enter Lake Pleasant at this time due to the eagle closure.
If just looking to get a Jeep BOH, this is a good starting point. It lets you see some of the harder trails in the park. There are several other areas to visit in the park, and each is a little unique. This one offers the best tree cover on a hot day.
As a stand-alone trail, 508 is nothing special. It just takes you to some intense hill climb trails, including Gut Buster, which might or might not be a Jeep Badge of Honor trail. The Jeep BOH system is odd and confusing because its system lists the badge trail like this: Gut Buster #508. However, 508 is one trail, and gut buster is a different trail labeled as 17. Both are standalone trails, so just come down 508, gawk at the hill climbs, and check in to simply collect your badge.
Based on other reviews and videos I have seen, I think some recent maintenance was done on this trail. I had to use 4lo and the lockers, but overall it wasn't too difficult. I can definitely see why the staff says don't try it in the rain. The soil was slick from morning dew even when it hadn't rained in a week of more.
Not much to say about this trail. Really easy trail with one easy challenge. If you are in any sort of built rig, don't expect much from this trail.
Can't access trail due to impassable snow on Rollins.
Can't access this road due to impassable snow on Mammoth Gulch.

Both seasonal gates are now closed.

Trail is impassable, even on 40'' tires. Too much snow and Dangerous icy conditions near the beginning pushing you towards the driver's side cliff edge.
Great day on the trail! Fresh snow was deep and sticky today, and not icy like usual. Made it just shy of 3 miles in where we hit waist deep snow. All three rigs on 40"+ tires. The drifts are deep, so don't go alone. We winched and and used kinetic Ropes a lot just to get to the 3 mile mark.
Snow and ice have made this trail impassable for winter.

Crazy ice right from the beginning of the trail.
Trail cannot be accessed due to impassable snow on Bill Moore Lake.
Winter has closed this trail naturally.
What a great rock-crawling trail! We forgot to grab the chainsaw, and there was a bunch of downed timber, so we skipped a lot of stuff, but it was a lot safer too since we were alone. The rocks in the creek are huge, but surprisingly have pretty good traction. Definitely a great trail if you have people in your group with varied build sizes.
This was a great trail. Not overly difficult, but difficult enough to make it interesting and fun. Following the creekbed most of the way offers great scenery as well. I definitely would recommend going west to east along this trail and not the opposite way. Just because of how narrow it is. Plus it's more fun to go up anyway.
What a great trail! This trail offers and kinds of fun obstacles. It's definitely a long one and took a lot longer than I expected, but serious fun the entire time. The deep trenches along this trail will definitely get your heart pounding and have you second-guessing your decisions. Make sure you go check out the waterfall. It's gorgeous. Wish it was flowing more while I was there.
Reading some of the reviews on the Badge of Honor app, I was expecting this trail to be pretty difficult. It was not at all as some people described, but still a fun trail, and the overlook is totally awesome! It definitely has some washout spots that are probably tricky when it's wet, but the park as a whole has tons of washouts that are tricky when wet. And the ruts/washouts along this trail are very mild in comparison to other trails closer to the general store.
Out of all 3 Badge of Honor trail in Windrock, I would rate this one as the easiest in terms of difficulty and the second best for scenery.
Awesome trail! Great obstacles to learn throttle control on. The terrain is steep, but not too steep where you have to throttle down the entire way. The boulders are just technical enough to keep you guessing on the right line. I am not sure what the trail is like in the middle of summer, but the leaves in the fall definitely added to the challenge as they made the rocks a little extra slick.
Nice long, easy ride around a large portion of the trail system. There are definitely some very cool, very difficult trails near the office worth checking out if you are looking for hard stuff. The farther you get from the office, I feel like the easier the roads get. Most are just smooth inclines and declines through the woods.
This trail is pretty quick, and pretty easy honestly. I'm surprised it is not labeled as a green. There was one sort of steep hill, but some of the greens have just as steep, if not steeper grades. The Auger Holes are definitely the highlight of this trail. I wish there was a bit more info about them. I can see they are into the coal, but I'm curious what the story behind them is. I do not know anything about Coal mining, so maybe this is no big deal to a local. But to me I thought it was cool. The views right there at this point at pretty good too.
Very scenic drive with the fall colors and great river access points. Not hard at all. If you have a low-clearance car, you might think about coming in from the east side just because the west side is a bit bumpy.
Small, but definitely a cool park in the middle of an area where there is no other type of off-road recreation. The park designers have done an excellent job of creating trails and challenge features that will test any type of vehicle build. Definitely a place I want to visit again in the future when it's dry.
The North 60 is a very large, pretty open area. I like that it's pretty untouched still, so it's fun to try and plan out a climb or path that you think would make a cool path. As more trails get burned in, I expect this to be a really fun area of the park.
Closed for the 2022 season. See you in 2023.
Trail is fully open again and no longer blocked off at the river crossing. Complete trail re-write coming soon.
