It's been a long time coming, and we are excited to announce the release of Trails Offroad for Apple CarPlay. Now, your favorite trail guides are on the web, in the app, and on your in-vehicle head unit. Making our ultra-detailed trail guides work with CarPlay was an adventure for us, and there are important things to know before you venture out. Don't worry Android friends, Android Auto is in the works.

CarPlay is an All-Access Member Feature

To utilize Trails Offroad via CarPlay, the connected device must be logged in as an All-Access Member in the Trails Offroad app. Free Members can start a Free 7-Day Trial to see the difference between having access to every guide, detail, photo, and CarPlay capability.

Before Your Trail Ride

You’ll want to ensure your Trails Offroad app is ready before heading off-grid. Make sure you are logged in to the app as an All-Access member. View your Offline tab; if any updates are available for your offline data, complete those.

Find a Trail in CarPlay

Trails Offroad CarPlay is best used when you are out on the trails. Your CarPlay-enabled head unit will display our color-coded trail tracks on the map. When you arrive at the trailhead, zoom in on the head unit screen, select Trails from the upper left, and select your trail from the list. The list will show trails visible in the map view, pan around the map to find trails not in your immediate area.

To search for trails farther away or to explore trails across the country, utilize the mobile app or the website. Think of CarPlay as your second monitor.

Follow a Trail in CarPlay

Once Follow Mode has begun on the vehicle screen, you will see the track on the map, a pulsing orange dot to denote your location, and CarPlay will display the Waypoints with the reference number. You can tap the screen and select the Waypoints tab to view the entire list of Waypoints for the trail with their name and description or refer to your mobile device for further Waypoint information as you drive.

Finish Your Ride and Leave a Review

When you’ve reached the end of your trail ride, use the X to exit Follow Mode and remove the Waypoints. Select Trails from the upper left and launch a new trail from the list to continue your adventures. We trust you had a great ride out on the trail! Refer back to the app and leave a trail review. Trail reviews are so helpful because they give a personal perspective to the trail that our guides do not. They also help inform the community of any recent trail condition changes.

Trails Offroad CarPlay has been a big project for our team and we hope you’re as excited about it as we are. Never hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to submit feedback.
